Meet Vicki
Vicki Chia Hui Lin, M.S., CCC-SLP
Founder & Speech language pathologist
Vicki Chia Hui Lin, M.S., CCC-SLP is a bilingual (English and Mandarin-Chinese), California state licensed speech-language pathologist with a passion for voice, swallowing, and communication. Vicki graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in linguistics and psychology and a minor in TES/FOL; and an M.S. in Communicative Disorders with distinction from California State University, Northridge. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech and Language Pathology as a certified member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and is certified for Person-Centered Care in Speech Therapy for adults. Vicki has a decade of experience working as a speech-language pathologist as well as a supervisor for a speech therapy team particularly in the acute medical and rehabilitation settings. She has extensive experience with both adults and children, with particular specialties in gender affirming voice training, adult voice disorders, post stroke, or head and neck cancer related voice, communication, cognitive, and swallow difficulties. Vicki worked very closely with head and neck surgeons, intensive care specialists, neurologists and pediatricians to care for their patients and families. She is currently a part time faculty at a state university educating future SLPs and a proud mentor in various programs to support first generation and minority students.
During the past years, Vicki has recognized the needs of crucial services not being provided through medical settings due to various limitations at some organizations. The seeds of starting her private practice to provide the services and safe place needed for the people and families she served were planted then. It is her mission to provide individuals with communication, voice, cognitive, and swallowing difficulties a safe and comfortable environment to find their voice, increase quality of life, and find joy once again in their daily activities. Whether it is to be able to tell your loved ones “I love you;” to drink a cup of coffee, to remember how to prepare your favorite dish, or to participate in a professional or social conversation, Vicki wants to help you take charge and move toward your goals. As a bilingual individual with an English and Mandarin-Chinese background and growing up with her mother’s hearing loss, she can empathize with personal experience and bring insights to her role as founder and speech language therapist of The Chat Room Therapy serving the voice community and beyond.
Vicki strongly believes in treating the “whole-person,” using her professional, compassionate, and supportive approach in functional and meaningful activities to expand a person’s communication, voice, cognitive, and swallowing functions. Ultimately, Vicki strives for helping people find their voice and increase quality of life.
When Vicki is not wearing the speech language pathologist hat, she finds joy in hiking, listening to audio books and music, jogging, cooking, and eating especially while spending quality time with her family and close friends.
